Mkawa Permanent Magnet Pumps: The Future of Intelligent Water Systems

The Evolution of the Water Pump
For decades, the water pump industry relied on standard induction motors. They did the job, but they were loud, inefficient, and prone to wear and tear.
Enter the Permanent Magnet Motor (PMM).
Mkawa uses PMM technology in several intelligent water-system families. If you are upgrading a home or commercial system, compare PMM and induction options at the required duty point.
What is a Permanent Magnet Motor
Unlike traditional induction motors that use electricity to create a magnetic field in the rotor, a PMM uses high-strength rare-earth magnets built directly into the rotor. This eliminates the energy loss associated with inducing a magnetic field.
The result can be high motor efficiency. The supplied Mkawa brochures display an IE5 mark; exact motor and pump-system efficiency should be confirmed for the selected model and operating point.
The Core Advantages of Mkawa PMM Pumps
1. Energy Efficiency Under Variable Demand
Permanent-magnet motors avoid rotor magnetizing current, and a VFD can reduce speed when demand falls. The supplied WHB/WHBJL brochure states an energy-saving effect of up to 40%. Actual savings require a comparison at the site's flow, head, run hours, controls, and tariff.
2. Low-Noise Design
The supplied brochures describe the pumps as low-noise, but they do not publish a decibel value. Installed noise depends on speed, mounting, pipework, room acoustics, and the operating point.
3. Model-Specific Footprint
Permanent-magnet technology can support a compact motor design, but size and weight comparisons must use the exact models. Check the dimensional drawing and required service clearances before choosing an installation location.
4. Intelligent Constant Pressure
The combination of PMM and VFD technology lets the controller adjust speed as demand changes. Pressure regulation remains subject to the pump curve, sensor placement, pipe losses, controller settings, and system capacity.
5. Service Conditions and Lifespan
Operating near the intended duty point, avoiding dry running, providing ventilation, and maintaining the system all influence service life. The supplied brochures do not state a 12-to-20-year lifespan, so project estimates should use the written warranty and maintenance plan.
